"The Salton Sea"

Bueno y siguiendo con la tendencia down... (yo creo que por las situaciones que han pasado en estos últimos meses) me hicieron toparme con esta movie “The Salton Sea” en la cual nos veremos sumergidos en la vida de Danny Parker (Val Kilmer) un adicto a la metamfetamina, que a su vez es un soplón para un par de policías corruptos... una movie bastante oscura en donde los personajes tocan fondo... pero eso no es todo Danny Parker tiene otra vida como Tom Van Allen un trompetista de jazz... y que tiene que ver esto con la trama... ahí esta lo interesante de tocar fondo... de cómo una persona sensata y alivianada es conducida a vivir en las cloacas de la sociedad, para encontrarse nuevamente atreves de la culpa, el arrepentimiento y odio, para finalmente renacer como un nuevo ser pero diferente a lo que era antes... (mejor o peor) yo creo que mejor...

Once again following the tendency of previous post… ( I guess is because the life that I have had in the last months) made me stumble whit this movie “Tha Salton Sea”… where Val Kilmer plays the roll of Danny Parker a punk tweaker that is also a snitch for a couple of corrupts policemen… a noir film where all people touch bottom… but that’s not all… Danny Parker is also Tom Van Allen a Jazz trumpeter… and what is this has to do whit the film… that’s the interesting part… he has to hit rock bottom in order to find himself out of the gutter that has been his life for by guilt, remorse, and revenge only to re-emerge as a fully whole but forever changed human being… (better or worse) I think for the better…

No se como, ni cuando, ni donde me tomaron esta foto.... ja, ja, ja... o creo que por lo menos encontré a mi hermano gemelo perdido... el caso es que lo mas cagado de que este chavalo se parezca a mi... es el espectacular mismo y el mensaje que lleva “ Acaso Dios tiene un propósito para mi?”... ja, ja, ja... a estas alturas del partido no lo se... yo creo que depende mas de mi que de el ... pero bueno veremos que pasa.

La Banda Big Sir…el disco: Und Die Scheibe Andert Sichimmer… y quien chingados son Big Sir... bueno pues son Lisa Papineau y Juan Alderete... (vocalista on hire y el bajista oficial de los Mars Volta)... debo admitir que necte este álbum por ser fan de Alderete ya que la verdad es un gran bajista... y que sonidos encontraremos en este disco? ... pues diré que es una mezcla de electrónico, jazz, ambient... para lograr un sonido parecido al de Goldfrapp o Portishead, algo no muy nuevo pero que vale la pena ponerle atención... total que se puede perder? Además para aquellos que les guste la forma de tocar de Alderete en este álbum se avienta muy buenos grooves y el mayoría los hace con bajo fretless... que reflejan sus influencias de Jaco Pastorius... en definitiva un buen álbum ... si lo ven por hay denle un chance.

Big Sir is the Band… the album: Und Die Scheibe Andert Sichimmer… and who the hell are Big Sir… well the answer is Lisa Papineau and Juan Alderete… (vocalist on hire and the Official Bass Player of The Mars Volta)… I must admit that I got this disc because I’m fan of Alderete… and what is the sound of Big Sir? I say that is a mix of electronic, ambient and a little bit of Jazz… and the make a sound similar to Portishead or Goldfrapp, nothing new but it’s worth to listen to… what can you lose? Besides to those that like Alderete’s sound you will find a lot of groove bass lines most of all whit fretless bass… you can notice the influence of Jaco Pastorius on Alderete playing… in a nut shell a good album… if you see it in your favorite store buy it.

Desde hace un rato quería echarle el guante a los discos de Morphine… y bueno después de un rato lo hice… y debo decir que estoy muy complacido con el contenido de estos...el disco que me hace escribir esta entrada es “Cure for the Pain” que decir de este disco... simplemente genial... el sonido de la banda esta principalmente compuesto por saxofón y el peculiar bajo fretless de dos cuerdas de Mark.... la música de Morphine no suena a cualquier otra banda “Indie” su sonido es totalmente diferente aunque medio bluseron...su música puede ser medio down pero también realmente divertida en ocasiones... sin duda vale la pena tratar su discografia... no se decepcionaran... es una lastima que el cantante y bajista Mark Sandman muriera en escenario por haya del 1999...rip Sandman

Since while ago I wanted to put my hands on Morphine’s discography… I finally did it… I have to say I’m real pleased… The disc that makes me write about them is “Cure for the Pain” simply a great disc… fronted by saxophone and two-string slide bass guitar, Morphine’s music sound different to other indie bands, although you can perceive a blues feel… their music can goes from really down to real joy… give it a try … you won’t be disappointing… is just a shame that singer and bassist Mark Sandman die on stage.

Si quieres conocer mas a fondo el trabajo de John Waters quien en alguna ocasión fue llamado el “Papa de la Basura” por el mismo William Burroughs... tu tienes que ver este filme... rodado en Nueva York y en modo monologo... veremos a Waters hablar de sus películas desde Pink Flamingos hasta su ultima cinta A Dirty Shame... el monologo esta cargado de su peculiar humor así como de divertidos e interesantes anécdotas del rodaje de sus cintas... un buen trabajo para cualquier fan de Waters.

If you want to know a little better the John Waters’ works “Master of Bad Taste and Grotesque” who once was called “The Pope of Trash” by William Burroughs… you should watch this film… shooting in New York you’ll see to Waters giving a conversation about his films from the very beginning to the latest production. This monologue is charge whit his characteristic and visceral humor and full of anecdotes of his films. A good work for the fans from hell.

Nuevamente Rush esta de gira presentando su “Snakes and Arrows” Yo tuve la oportunidad de verlos en Sacramento en Agosto del 2007… cuando empezó la gira… la neta estuvo bien perro... asi que ahora estoy listo para la segunda parte...jajajaja y lo mas chingon de todo es que van a tocar a solo diez minutos de donde vivo... yujuuuuuuuu ya tengo mis boletos de preventa... yeeeaaahhhhhhh.

A casi 10 años de haber escuchado este disco por primera vez y ser introducido a esta banda.... nuevamente cae a mis manos este album “YOU” que es el ultimo álbum de la trilogía llamada “Radio Gnome Trilogy”. Bueno que decir de este disco... es una chingoneria... Gong es una banda de progresivo formada por el australiano Daevid Allen quien fue también miembro de la banda “Soft Machine” y bueno al hablar del sonido de este disco se puede decir que es sicodelia pura muy al estilo de “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” de Pink Floyd... aunque con su particular estilo y con algo mas de jazz... si te gusta el progre o de perdis te gusta de Mars Volta, encontraras que estos tios sonaban parecido, en algunos tracks... solo que hace mas de 20 años. Su primer álbum fue lanzado en el 69 “Magic Brother” y aun en la actualidad siguen tocando...puede que no sean tan famosos como otras bandas de progresivo... pero la calidad es igual, si no superior, asi que consigue este álbum y veras que estos tíos si sabían lo que estaban haciendo...jajaja

Nearly 10 years have been past since I heard this album for the first time and was introduce to this band… once again this album “YOU” is on my hands and once again it blow my mind… this album takes part of the trilogy “Radio Gnome”…and well whatever it is this album ROCKS… Gong is a rock progressive band formed for the australian Daevid Allen who was also member of “Soft Machine” and talking about the sound of “YOU” I might tell that sound like “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” of Pink Floyd… but whit their particular style and a some tracks more jazzy… if you like progressive rock or at least you like the Mars Volta. You will find similarities whit them, the trick is that this album is more than twenty years old. The first Gong album was release in 1969 “Magic Brother” and nowadays they still playing… maybe they are not as famous as other progressive rock bands but for sure they’re good if not better… you just listening this album and you will see what I’m talking about…

Después de seis años Manu Chao produce otro álbum de estudio “La Radiolina” y estoy muy a gusto con el trabajo que realizo y puedo decir que a mi gusto es uno de sus ,mejores producciones, aunque su álbum pueda parecer igual a sus previos discos, en si este sonido lo caracteriza y lo hace propio. Como siempre en los disco de Manu Chao encontraremos mensajes políticos, pero también encontramos canciones de amor, desesperanza y alegría... nuevamente escuchamos a Manu cantando en Francés, Ingles, Portugués y Español y la neta se oye muy bien... si no te han gustado sus otros discos, es muy probable que este tampoco te agrade... pero estoy seguro que si le das una oportunidad, encontraras que hay muy buenas canciones... So dale una oportunidad no tienes nada que perder o si...?

After six year, Manu Chao deliver another studio album “La Radiolina” and I’ really please to say that is one of his best works, although he recycles himself and there are people that don’t like his sound, he’s for sure a musician. As always we found politics messages on his songs but we also hear despair, love, hope and joy…and this disc we’ll hear to Manu Chao singing in French, Portuguese, English and Spanish and I have to say that he sound good and all songs… If you didn’t like his previous albums you probably don’t like this one either… but I’m sure that if you give it a chase you will find that are some really good song… So give it a try you don’t have nothing to lose, is it…?

Gogol Bordello - I Would Never Wanna Be Young Again - 3/06

Gogol Bordello is a band that is hard to set in a span of music. Although they proclaimed themselves as gypsy-punk, blending styles from punk, ska, hard rock, reggae, latin and of course slavic sounds they make this musical cocktail that sure will rush to your brain and make grab your pandero and star clapping as crazy... this is their third album “Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike” and I’m sure that you will have a great time if you find it and put it in your player…

Gogol Bordello es una banda que es difícil de catalogar, auque ellos mismo se proclaman como punk gitano, mezclando estilos que van del punk, latin, reggae, rock y aderezados con un violín y acordeón muy eslavos generan un cóctel musical que se te subirá en un dos por tres y hará que agarres el pandero de tu hermana y lo azotes como loco... este es su tercer álbum “Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike” estoy seguro que tendrás un gran rato si lo encuentras y lo pones es tu radio...

"Neighbor No.13"

“Después de ser un niño tolchoqueado es la primaria Murasaki Juzo (Shun Oguri) se convierte en un adulto psicológicamente afectado con serios problemas de temperamento. Asi que cuando descubre que Akai Toru (Hirofumi Arai) es la misma persona que lo atormentaba de niño, ahora vive en el departamento arriba del suyo y además de ser su nuevo jefe, algo cambia en el y asume una nueva y temible identidad como el vengativo Vecino No. 13 (Sido Nakamura)”. Si crees que la trama puede darnos una gran película como Lady Vengeance, Old Boy o Sympathy for Vengeance del director Chan Wook Park, te equivocas, aunque Takashi Miike es un director innovador y nos a dado geniales cintas, Vecino No. 13 resulta aburrida... si tan solo hubiese jugado mas con el rol de la venganza como Wood lo hizo con su trilogía de la venganza... Takashi hubiera entregado un mejor trabajo... pero bueno vale la pena echarle un vistazo y dale un oportunidad pero si embargo no es indispensable.

Leaving untie knots and make it predictable. This movie turns boring… If he would play more with the vengeance factor as Wook did in his magnificent trilogy… Takeshi would create something better… but well is worth to watch and give it a try… but not indispensable.

"Outside"

En 1995 David Bowie y Brian Eno se reunieron para producir “Outside” que es sin duda para mi uno de sus mejores discos en los últimos 20 años, este disco estaba planeado para ser uno de cinco que narrarían las aventuras de Nathan Adler que esta encargado de determinar que es legal e ilegal en un nuevo fenómeno que es crear arte a partir del crimen y asesinato... así como también investiga el asesinato de una chica de 14 años. A pesarde los raro que parezca el hilo conductor del álbum, este esta infestado de buenas canciones unas mas famosas que otras, pero que sin duda causaron impacto en los fans y no fans de Bowie... algunas de estas es “The Hearts Filthy Lesson” que apareció en los créditos finales de la movie “Seven”, así como también “I’m Deranged” que aparece en “Lost Highway” de David Lynch. Pero dejando todo esta a un lado “Outside” integro lo electrónico y lo que estaba de moda en los 90 pero sin dejar de ser Bowie y tomando reminiscencias de discos pasados... sin mas un disco que debe ser estar en tu colección de discos, asi que si no lo tienes sal en este momento y consíguelo.

In 1995 David Bowie and Brian Eno gather again to produce “Outside” that for me is one of the best Bowie’s works in the last twenty years, this album was planed to be a series of five, that will tell the adventures of Nathan Adler, a cop or sort of, in charge of decide what was legally or acceptable in this lately trend of Art Crime, he also instigates the murder of a fourteen-year-old girl. Although the story line seems weird, it is not… and the whole album is infested of good songs, "The Hearts Filthy Lesson” latter featured in the closing credits of the movie Seven. "I'm Deranged" featured on the soundtrack of David Lynch's Lost Highway… but leaving all this behind “Outside” took the electronic sound of 90’s and blend it whit the reminiscences of previous Bowie’s albums given it his particular style… So if you don’t have this disc in your collection go get it right now.

"Inland Empire"

Once again David Lynch bring us a weird and intense drama about a Nikki (Laura Dern) is a married actress who ends up in bed with her co-star (Justin Theroux), but is it an affair or just acting? following the format of Lost Highway and Mulholand Drive. Lynch drag us down into the character’s psyche which is really confusing and frightening. This film is definitely for Lynch’s fans and I recommend to everybody out there that is not familiarized whit Lynch’s work to see first MD and LH before you try to see this film.

Una vez mas David Lynch nos deleita con esta nueva cinta (Inland Empire) el cual es un raro e intenso drama protagonizado por Nikki (Laura Dern) quien es una actriz casada que termina en la cama con su co-estelar (Justin Theroux), pero es todo esto un real o es solo parte de la fantasía? Siguiendo el formato de Lost Highway y Mullholand Drive. Lynch nos arrastra al fondo de la psique de los personajes lo cual es por cierto muy estaño, confuso y en ocasiones aterrante. Esta movie es en definitiva recomendada para los fans de Lynch, por lo que si no conoces el trabaja de este director es recomendable familiarizarse con este con trabajos como Lost Highway y Mullholand Drive.

"Bright Red"

De mi colección de discos “Bright Red” es uno de los mas queridos y no por ser edición especial o alguna patraña similar, sino por la música y las letras. Laurie Anderson es una artista que sin mas esta adelantada a su época y no tiene miedo de expresar su forma de pensar... las letras de sus discos van de historias familiares, fábulas, sueños o cualquier cosa que le venga en mente y las transforma en canciones ... poeta, performancera, músico... todo amalgamado en una sola persona que sin duda a inspirado a muchos músicos, aunque estos no lo quieran aceptar... en este disco de 1994 tiene de músicos invitados a Lou Reed, Adrián Below, Cyro Baptista, Joey Baron entre otros... y esta producido por Brian Eno... si no conoces el trabajo de esta dama... este es un disco que te puede acercar a su trabajo y se puede decir que es de los mas melódicos... sin mas un disco que no debe faltar para los fans del al avant-garde. Los dejo con un video de su primer album llamado "Big Science" de 1982.

Si tu has pensado en emigrar a otro país porque no encuentras un buen trabajo, tu novia te engaña, tus hermanos te odian, tus padres son un fastidio o porque simplemente eres un pata de perro… puede que te llame la atención en titulo de este documental… pero bueno la verdad es que no es lo que esperaba... el eje principal de la historia es la legalización de la mariguana y la unión entre homosexuales... si por alguna razón te sientes atraído por estos temas puede que te guste “Escape to Canada” de otra manera terminaras roncando y escurriendo baba... pero ahora pensándolo bien creo saber cuales son las verdaderas razones de cierto individuo por sus ganas de volar a este gélido país...jajajaja

If you have think to leave your country because you don’t find a good job, your girlfriend is cheating on you, your siblings hate you, your parents are a drag or basically because you are a dog’s paw… you might want to watch this documentary… well the true is that is not what I expected… what you will find is a bunch of people talking about gay marriage and legalization of mariguana… If for some reason you find attractive this topics you’ll enjoy “Escape to Canada” otherwise you’ll fall asleep… now I start to understand the true reason why I friend of mine is planning to fly to this country… jajajaja

Una vez mas Rush esta de tour. Esta vez promocionando su ultimo disco Snakes & Arrows (que a mi gusto es uno de sus mejores discos) y tuve la oportunidad de verlos en el Sleep Train Amphitheatre de Sacramento, y aunque este tour no me pareció tan impresionante como el del Vapor Trail que vi en la ciudad de México, aun asi la musica es igual de buena o mas ya que escuche todo lo que deseaba de esta agrupación. ... no recuerdo el set list completo o en orden pero abren con: Lime light, del Snakes and Arrows tocan: Far Cry, Armor and Sword, Working the Angels, The Larger Bowl, Spindrift, The main monkey business, The way the wind blows, Hope, Faitheless, Bravest Face y Malignant Narcissism como pueden ver casi todo el disco y pues si escuche las que queria... otras de otros discos fueron: Digital Man, Mission, Free Will, Cirucumstances, Dreamline, Subdivisions, Natural Science, Drum Solo, Summer Time Blues, The Spirit of Radio... del encore empiezan con Tom Sawyer... pero con un video de South Park donde los personajes de esta serie tienen su banda tributo de Rush, Little Rush y el Cartman le cambia la letra a Tom Sawyer... jajaja esta cagado y pues ya tocan Tom Sawyer, One Little Victory, A pasaje to Bankok y YYZ... aaah tocaron todo lo que pude haber deseado sin duda un gran show... si van a México no dejen de verlo.

Once again Rush is on the road. This time promoting their album Snakes & Arrows. I had the chance to see them last Saturday at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre at Sacramento. I have to said that this tour seems to be not as impressive like the one that they did at the Vapor Trail Tour as I remember, anyways the music is what it counts and they always give a great show. I don’t remember exactly the set list but this a pretty good idea of what it was. They open whit Lime light, from Snakes and Arrows they play: Far Cry, Armor and Sword, Working the Angels, The Larger Bowl, Spindrift, The main monkey business, The way the wind blows, Hope, Faitheless, Bravest Face y Malignant Narcissism as you see is almost the whole album... from others albums: Digital Man, Mission, Free Will, Circumstances, Dreamline, Subdivisions, Natural Science, Drum Solo, Summer Time Blues, The Spirit of Radio... as encore they began whit Tom Sawyer... but preview a short carton where the characters form South Park play the past of Rush as Little Rush and Cartman changes the lyrics to Tom Sawyer... jajaja that’s really fun. Tom Sawyer, One Little Victory, A pasaje to Bankok y YYZ… is the whole encore. They played everything I expected to hear. If they go to your city is a must go show.

"Cowboy Bebop Soundtrack"

Una vez que hayas visto la serie o la movie... te darás cuenta que el soundtrack es increíble no por nada tienen el alias de Bebop... el CD trae 17 rolas...cada una de ellas igual de buenas una que otra... la mayoría son rolas de Jazz con toda la Big Band completa aunque también hay uno que otro blues y algo electrónico. La banda que ejecuta estos temas son The Seatbelts y la neta es uno de los mejores soundtrack que he escuchado en años.

Once you saw the movie or the series... you will notice that the soundtrack is terrific. It blow my mind… not for nothing they are Bebop… the cd has 17 tracks, each one of them is great… most of the music is jazz, but there are blues and electronic track also… the band that perform are the Seatbelts… and to be honest this soundtrack is one of the best I had heard on years… get it

Esta cinta esta basada en la serie animada del mismo nombre... se puede decir que es un capitulo extendido de la serie... pero lo mas importante es que es una gran cinta... el eje de la historia es que la pandilla de Spike (Cowboy Bebop) tratan de atrapar a Vincent Volaju, un ex militar ahora terrorista que trata de aniquilar a la especie humana esparciendo un virus... como esta base te podrás imaginar que la cinta esta llena de moquetazos, persecuciones, intrigas y todas aquellas cosas que encuentras en una movie de acción... pero como buen anime japonés encontraras algo de trasfondo en todo el asunto... si vieron Animatrix y les gusto Cowboy Bebop no se la pueden perder...ademas Spike usa el cabello como solía traerlo yo...oh yeah jajaja

Based on the animated television series whit the same name… Cowboy Bebop The Movie can be considered a extended chapter… leaving behind that the movie is great. The plot of the story is quite simple, Spike’s gang (Comboy Bebop) are in the run to catch Vincet Volaju, an ex military, now a terrorist that try to annihilate the human race spreading a virus… whit this story you can imagine to find a lot of action on the film, but as usual in Japanese anime you’ll find something deeper in the scheme… if you saw The Animatrix and you like it… you can miss Cowboy Bebop…beside Spike has a really cool hair, as same as I used to wear….oh yeah jajaja

Por azares del destino me toco ver “Black Snake Moan (2007)” que narra la historia de Rae (Christina Ricci) y Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson), Rae una adicta al sexo, Lazarus un ex guitarrista de blues... la trama (que importa) y aunque la movie es mala a mi parecer... lo divertido de la cinta era ver al Samuel gritando como siempre “.....mother fucker” jajajajaja, como en sus buenos timpos lo hacia en “Pulp Fiction” y mas recientemente en “Snakes on the Plane” (vaya bodrio), pero bueno dejando a lado la movie, lo que me sorprendió fue ver a una Christina Ricci ya mas madurona ... por lo que me vino a la mente hacer este post... del ayer y hoy de las niñas de Hollywood. Yquien no recuerda a Ricci en su participación en las películas de Casper y la Familia Adams... toda una nena buena con sus trencitas y todo y ahora haciéndola de ninfomanía ...jajajaja tienen que verlo.

The other day I saw “Black Snake Moan (2007)” that tells the story of Rae (Christina Ricci) and Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson), Rae is a sex addict, Lazarus a ex blues guitar player… the plot… doesn’t matter (although I think is crap) I rented just to see Samuel said “…mother fucker” jajajaja, as in the god times in “Pulp Fiction” and recently on “Snakes on the Plane” (garbage) but well leaving behind the movie what I really enjoyed was to see Christina Ricci fully grow… that’s what it make me post this today… Did you remember Ricci on Gasper and The Family Adams movies… all a little girl whit petite tails and real charming… now a nynfo … jajaja you must see it.

Ahora si bien recuerdan a Natalie Portman quien haya por 94' realizo “The Professional” con Jean Reno... era toda una escuincla... mas recientemente la vimos en “V for Vendetta” pero tambien en “Closer”, “Star Wars”, “Mars Attack” y muchas mas... y quien lo imaginaria de aquella pequeña que quería ser una asesina a sueldo como el buen León.

Natalie Portman made “The Professional” in 94’ whit Jean Reno… She was a real brat whit no body at all… now she is a babe we recently watch her in “V for Vendetta” also in “Closer”, “Star Wars”, “Mars Attack” and more films… I never think it from that brat that wanted to be a mercenary as the good Leon.

Y la lista sigue creciendo con esta otra nena “Kirsten Dunst” que apareció en “Interview whit the Vampire” también en el 94’ al igual que Portman... y donde ella misma recuerda que estaba muy emocionada porque tenia que zorrajarle un beso a Brat Pitt, aun era un mocosa pero ahí estaba... y también la vimos como infanta en “Jumanji”, ahora mas crecidita y desarrollada la vimos en “Marie Antoinette” y bueno también en el “Spider Man” pero esa niñita si que a hecho películas... como 20 facil...

And the list keep growing this little girl “Kristen Dunst” that her great debut was “Interview whit the Vampire” also in released in 94’… as she said herself she was really excited because she had to kiss to Brat Pitt, she was a kid but already was a big star…we also see her in “Jumanji”, an now lately in “Marie Antoinette” and yes “Spider Man” but she has made more than twenty …easy…

Mas escuincla aun, pero igual muchos la desean Lindsay Lohan es otra oruga que salió del capullo para el beneplácito del genero masculino... y aunque la neta nunca he visto una de sus movies, si se que de repente puff... creció y se convirtió en toda una diva a la cual según los malos chismes le gusta un buen el desmadre...jajajaja nada que ver con la imagen que Disney le dio en sus movies dirigidas a los inmaduros de la sociedad, con películas como “The Parent Trap” o “Herbie”... aunque si tuviera un vocho y me la encontrara en Reforma... si me la trepaba...jajaja

Certainty younger that the last ones Lindsay Lohan is other caterpillar that hacked the cocoon to emerge like a hot woman… although I haven’t seen any of her movies… I know that suddenly she explode and now she is a babe that like to mess around drinking and snoring… and… nothing to see what is like in her Disney movies “The Parent Trap” or “Harbie” they are G rated so they must be nice…jajaja

"Primus"

Como ya se habrán dado cuenta, el bajo eléctrico es uno de mis instrumentos musicales favoritos, y aunque no sea un instrumento muy predominante como otros, si tiene un sonido muy especial (ya que todos en alguna ocasión al escuchar música decimos”...a no ma’ guey, súbele al bajo”) y como no, si esas frecuencias sonoras hacen retumbar tu caja toráxica de una manera muy chida... y pasando al tema. Este particular instrumento me hizo clavarme en esta banda “Primus”, originaria de California Primus esta conformada por su bajista estrella Les Claypool, Larry Lalonde guitarrista y Tim “Herb” Alexander como baterista. Y todo comenzó a principios de los 90’s cuando aun era un puberto, y escuche a estos tíos por primera vez, de ahí creció mi afición por el instrumento y por la banda. Y es si estos son los discos que me convirtieron en un bass freak. “Frizzle Fry” 1990, “Sailing the Seas of Cheese” 1991, y “Pork Soda” 1993. Y aunque la música de Primus es difícil de ubicarla en un genero especifico, es obvio que estos chamacos crecieron escuchando rock, por lo que para definirla tendrás que escuchar sus discos, pero eso es lo menos importante, sino darte la oportunidad de escuchar algo diferente y realmente prendido... claro y no hay que olvidar los side projects de Les Claypool, Frog Brigade, Oysterhead, C2B3 y participaciones con un sin numero de artistas como Adrian Belew, Ozzy, Tom Waits, Metallica... y una lista inmensa pero dice la nana... “esa es otra historia”

As you already notice, electric bass is one of my favorite instruments and although is not as popular as guitar or drums. It has a really special sound (everyone at least one time while listening music has said … turn the bass up dude) and is because those frequencies make you tremble… and talking in relation to bass we’ll talk about “Primus” this band from California is Les Claypool on bass, Larry Lalonde guitarist and Tim “Herb” Alexander as drummer. I began listening their music at early 90’s when I was a teen full of acne… and then is when my affection to the bass develop, these are the album that make me a bass freak“Frizzle Fry” 1990, “Sailing the Seas of Cheese” 1991, and “Pork Soda” 1993. Give a tag to Primus’s music is hard, so is you want to define it. You will have to listening their records… but leaving that behind what it matters is the music itself. Give yourself a chance and listen these dudes you won’t repent… oh and also don’t forget Claypool’s side projects…. Les Claypool Frog Brigade, Oysterhead, C2B3 and numerous collaborations whit artists like Adrian Belew, Ozzy, Tom Waits, Metallica...but as nana said… “that’s another story”

Este es un disco que si te interesa aprender o de pura curiosidad escuchar algo diferente, no puedes evitarlo. Grabación en vivo en Junio de 1961... escuchar el toque de Bill Evans y el desafiante y frenético bajo de Lafaro es algo sorprendente... es una lastima que Lafaro pereciera en un accidente 10 días después de grabar este álbum... con tan solo 25 años apenas Lafaro fundo sus bases como uno de los mejores contrabajistas a la altura de Mingus... quien dijera que no se puede tocar rápido en contrabajo nunca ha escuchado a Lafaro... no tengo mas que decir...mas que corre a tu tienda de discos favorita y hazte un favor y cómprate este disco.

This album is essential if you want to learn jazz or just curiosity about something different. Recorded live June 1961… You simply cannot describe Bill Evans' exquisite touch and the defiant and frenetic Lafaro’s bass… is real sad bassist Scott LaFaro died in a car accident 10 days later after the recording… but whit only 25 years old Lafaro left a legacy as bass player at the same level that Mingus did it… Who ever say that you can not play fast in a double bass never known Lafaro… so stop what your doing and go to you favorite record store and get this cd…

"Throwdown"

Ja… Si has sentido ganas de golpear a alguien en la calle solo por el hecho de hacerlo o de madrear a uno de tus compañeros de trabajo... puede que Throwdown sea una película que te guste... dirigida por Johnny To, Throwdown narra la historia de Stevo Bo un ex – campeón de Judo que decide abrir un club nocturno donde planea olvidarse de su pasión por la pelea... (esa es la trama de la movie pero no les puedo contar el final) en fin... hasta que aparece un nuevo pelador que quiere enfrentarlo... (aunque no se oye muy interesante la movie es buena y nos lleva a conocer que algunas veces hay que tocar fondo para saber hacia adonde hay que dirigirse)... una movie que puede ser dominguera, pero si alguna vez te haz sentido fuera de tu lugar tal vez te agrade...

If you have had the urge to kick somebody ass on the street or beat one of your co-workers, maybe Throwdown is a movie you might enjoy… directed by Johnny To, Throwdown tells the story of Stevo Bo an judo ex-fighter that retire to open a pub and try to forget his passion for fight… (that’s the plot of the movie… but I can’t tell you the end) whatever… then a new fighter appears to fight him…(although seems pretty lame is not… and the main idea is that sometimes you have to touch deep down to star all over again)… maybe is Sunday movie… but if you sometimes feel that you don’t belong here… I’m sure you like it.

"Bill Wyman"

Y siguiendo con los bajistas esta ocasión hablaremos de Bill Wyman... que si bien no es tan carismático o famoso como sus compañeros Mick y Keith si es al igual que ellos es un rockstar y un gran músico... y a pesar que después de 30 años de andar con los Stones nunca se sintió demasiado acoplado a ellos... dejando atrás los egos y todo el lodo que se pueda acumular, debemos estar atentos a las rítmicas y pegajosas líneas de bajo que este gran maestro trajo a los Stones... basta recordar rolitas como Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Under my Thumb, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Sympathy for the Devil, Mothers little Helper y muchas otras mas donde el trabajo de Wyman es contundente y dan a los Stones su sonido tan característico... sin mas ni menos Bill Wyman es un gran bajista.

Keep going whit the bass players…this time will talk about Bill Wyman… although he is not as charismatic or famous as his partners Mick and Keith…he is equal a rockstar and a great musician… despite he played 30 years whit the Stones he never felt accepted… but leaving behind egos and all the mud aside… we should focus on the music. Bill brought to the Stones great bass lines, real catchy and fun to hear… as example just remember Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Under my Thumb, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Sympathy for the Devil, Mothers little Helper and so much more… where Bill’s work is blunted and gave to the Stones great part of their sound… whit no doubt Bill Wyman is a great bass player.

Ja... ajusten sus cinturones y prepárense para el nuevo DVD de la gira “Of the Whales and Woe” llamado FANCY, que es una compilación de diferentes conciertos a lo largo de la union americana... tomando audio del board mix y audio de los propios fans. Fancy trata de presentar un concierto desde el punto de vista de la audiencia...(la neta no lo creo) pero bueno. La calidad del audio y video no es mala, pero me late mas la edición del Hallucino-Genetics ... dejando atrás este detalle FANCY es un gran material para cualquier fan from hell como yo... con ayuda del saxofonista Skerik, el percusionista Mike Dillon, el baterista Paul Baldi y la multifacética Gabby La La, Claypool nos deleita con el siguiente set list.

Michel Gondry es conocido como director de videos musicales: entre ellos los realizados para: Bjork, Radio Head, Foo Fighters, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Beck... entre otros mas. Sin embargo esta entrada no hablara de sus videos, si no de sus trabajos cinematográficos que al igual que sus videos juegan con la fantasía y la animación.

Michel Gondry is best known as video director for his work with: Bjork, Radio Head, Foo Fighters, Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Beck...among others. But this post will not talk about this work, instead I’ll talk about his work in the movies business.

Human Nature (2001) es una extraña movie acerca de un científico que trata de enseñar reglas de etiqueta a unos roedores, su asistente que esta enamorada de el, su esposa (Patricia Arquette: acuérdense de Lost Highway) que tiene una rara enfermedad que hace que tenga todo el cuerpo cubierto de pelo y un individuo que crecio en lo salvaje hasta ser encontrado por estos tipos. La trama es simple: al encontrar a este especie de hombre-mono, el científico trata de domesticarlo y integrarlo a la sociedad, el hombre-mono por su parte aprende a ser hipócrita y actuar a su conveniencia de acuerdo a los estandares sociales, Patricia Arquette esta acomplejada por su enfermedad y acepta todo por parte de su científico marido, la asistente seduce a su jefe y todo se enreda de una forma bastante divertida... al final de la movie nos quedamos una moraleja al descubrir las verdaderas razones de cada personaje. Una movie entretenida y que marca el inicio de la carrera de Gondry en el cine.

All this characters collate… and bring the wheel of the story… (Human Nature) everyone of them have a secret desire. In order to reach it every one of them will twisted their morals and thoughts to pursuit happiness…

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) es una comedia romántica en donde Joel (Jim Carrey) es sometido a una cirugía con la cual borrara sus recuerdos de su relación amorosa con Clementine (Kate Winslet), esto al enterarse que ella misma ya lo hizo y al encontrarlo en la calle no lo reconoce... jajajaja (yo debería hacer esto con mucha gente que conozco). Pero mientras sus secciones de borrado por así decirlo, Joel se arrepiente y decide que quiere mantener sus recuerdos... con efectos muy simples pero ingeniosos Gondry nos sumerge en la psique de Joel... una movie que deben ver para ir observando el progreso de Gondry como director de cine... esta movie gano un oscar en el 2005 como: Best Writing Original Screenplay y estuvo nomidada en muchas otras competencias.

But as his doctor begins to wipe out traces of Clementine, Joel decides he doesn't want to lose what's left of their relationship… whit simple especial effects Gondry drags us down in Joel’s psyche… a must see film to observe the progress of Gondry as director… this movie won the 2005 Academy Award®: Best Writing Original Screenplay, and was nominated at many festivals.

The Science of Sleep (2005) ultima cinta de Gondry que a mi gusto en la mejor narra las aventuras de Sthepane (Gael Garcia) el cual viaja a Francia a encontrarse con su mamá, la cual le encuentra un trabajo como diseñador grafico y lo instala en un departamento, en donde conoce a Sthepanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg) su vecinita ... con situaciones divertidas y con la experiencia previa de sus realizaciones Gondry crea mundos alternos con la ayuda de la animación, y su peculiar vista de la fantasía... por su parte Gael actúa bien y lo mas cagado es verlo hablar francés... jajaja . Esta cinta deja ver que Michel Gondry tiene mucha madera para la dirección y espero con gusto sus nuevos proyectos. Denle una oportunidad a estas cintas y verán que el francesito Gondry tiene que ofrecer.

The Science of Sleep (2005) last film of Gondry is the best of the collection. In this film Sthepane (Gal Garcia) travel to France to meet his mother and work as a junior in a ad company… after move in at his apartment. He met Sthepanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg) his neighbor… whit funny situations and previous experience for his other films Gondry create fantasy worlds and take us whit Sthepane in his journey to win the love of Sthepanie. Sin duda el disco debut de Jaco Pastorius es una de las mejores composiciones en la historia moderna del Jazz. Es imposible escucharlo hoy en dia, como cuando fue estrenado en 1976 pero esto no desmerita. El track que habré el disco es una transcripción para bajo fretless un estándar de Bebop “Dona Lee” este es un manifiesto de virtuosidad, el siguiente track, es una celebración al funk-soul “Come On, Come Over”, este track fue como picarle un ojo a los snobs del Jazz y un tributo a los grandes del R&B de la década previa. “Continuum” fue una exploración mirando a futuro a los años que pasaría tocando con Weather Report, “Portrait of Tracy” refleja la imaginación de Jaco para producir harmonía en el bajo en una manera que nadie lo había hecho antes de el. Y el resto del disco continua hacia por tres cuartos de hora, cada track dirigiéndose a puntos diferentes, cada uno una obra maestra que podría poner orgulloso a cualquier músico. Lo que hace excepcional a este disco es que el fue responsable por cada uno de los tracks y este fue su álbum debut. Mas haya de su fenomenal técnica y su sorprendente madures para componer (Jaco tenia 24 cuando salió su disco) habia una audacia en la forma de realizar sus arreglos: “Okonkole Y Trompa” fue arreglada para bajo electrico, Tropa y percusión, y “Speak Like a Child” fue compuesta por Pastorius en colaboración con el pianista Herbie Hancock, resaltando un arreglo para cuerdas que merece seria atención por si misma. Para un hombre con este tipo de caleidoscópica creatividad permanecer cuerdo tal vez era demasiado pedir; su gradual descenso a la esquizofrenia y trágica muerte ya son una historia familiar. Jaco era el mejor.

With no doubt the Jaco Pastorius' debut album is one of the greatest composition in modern jazz history. It's impossible to hear it today as it sounded when it was first released in 1976 but that doesn’t demean the album itself. The opening track -- his transcription for fretless electric bass of the bebop standard "Donna Lee" was a manifesto of virtuosity; the next track, the funk-soul celebration "Come On, Come Over" was a poke in the eye to jazz snobs and a love letter to the R&B greats of the previous decade, "Continuum" was a exploration looking forward to the years he was about to spend playing with Weather Report, “Portrait of Tracy” reflect Jaco’s imagination to produce harmony in a way that nobody did it before him. The program continues like that for three-quarters of an hour, each track heading off in a different direction, each one a masterpiece that would have been a proud achievement for any musician. What made Jaco so exceptional was that he was responsible for all of them, and this was his debut album. Beyond his phenomenal bass technique and his surprisingly mature compositional chops (he was 24 when this album was released), there was the breathtaking audacity of his arrangements: "Okonkole Y Trompa" is scored for electric bass, French horn, and percussion, and "Speak Like A Child" which Pastorius composed in collaboration with pianist Herbie Hancock, features a string arrangement by Pastorius that merits serious attention in its own right. For a man with this sort of kaleidoscopic creativity to remain sane was perhaps too much to ask; his gradual descent into schizophrenic and eventual tragic death are now a familiar story. Jaco was the best.

Nunca he sido una persona religiosa y probablemente nunca lo seré... y sabiendo como es la iglesia católica mucho menos. Deliver Us from Evil es un documental que trata el caso del padre Oliver O’Grady que es uno de los mas notorios pedofilos en la historia moderna de la iglesia católica. En la cinta oiremos de la propia voz del Ollie (como le llaman sus amistades) sus deslices con pequeños niños, incluso una niña de 9 meses. Lo alarmante de este caso, es que esto sucedió desde la década de los 70’s y sus superiores, en este caso la diócesis de California sabían de los casos, y que hicieron NADA! lo movieron de iglesia a iglesia para que siguiera abusando en otros lados, y así fue por cerca de 20 años.

La cinta cuenta también con footage nunca antes visto de la deposición de el cardenal de los Ángeles Roger Mahoney y su segundo el Monseñor Cain. Es realmente evidente en sus declaraciones que sabían que es lo que estaba ocurriendo pero puesto que tienen un lugar importante en la iglesia están muy bien protegidos y respaldados por el Vaticano y sus múltiples abogados.

El héroe de esta documental es el padre Thomas Doyle, que junto con las victimas del padre Ollie realizan un revuelta y van hasta el mismo Vaticano a pedir cuentas de porque fueron ignoradas sus peticiones para destituir al padre Ollie y como fue que se cuarto un plan para protegerlo. Obviamente nunca pudieron llegar al Papa y sus peticiones nunca fueron respondidas.

Sin lugar a dudas un gran documental que debe ser visto por todos, independientemente de tus convicciones religiosas existan o no, y para aquellos que estén interesados en el desorden disociativo chequen al padre Ollie que narra su historia sin remordimiento e incluso ríe.

P.D. El papa Benedicto XVI fue acusado de conspiración por cubrir delitos de abuso sexual en los Estados Unidos, por petición del Vaticano el presidente Bush le otorgo inmunidad al Papa.

I have never been a religious person and probably I never will… and after watching this documentary I have no doubt. Deliver Us from Evil is a film that tells the story of Father Oliver O’Grady, the most notorious pedophile in the history of modern Catholic Church. In the film we can hear in the own voice of Ollie his slips whit little boys, including a nine month girl baby. The alarming about this case is that this events happened since 1973 and his superiors known about it, and what did they do NOTHING! They just moved him from parish to parish for almost 20 years.

The film also included never-before-seen footage of the deposition of Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahoney and his former second-in-command, Monsignor Cain. It’s really evident for their declaration that they knew what was happening, but they denied everything. They know they can do it, because they have the support of the Vatican and their lawyers.

The hero in this documentary is father Thomas Doyle, that along with the victims get together and fly to the Vatican to ask why their petitions to dismiss father Ollie never were listened. Obviously they never could reach the Pope and their petitions never were asked.

Aaaah... que mejor regalo de día del niño me di ayer con el concierto de Tool... la neta no sabia que tal se iba a poner...pero resulto mejor de lo que tenia esperado...no recuerdo el set list en orden...pero principalmente fueron rolas del Aenima como stinkfist, forty-six and 2 y aenema, del Lateralus: The grude, eon blue apocalypse, the patient, schism, ticks and leches, triad, del 10,000 days: Vacarius, Jambi, Wings for Marie, 10,000 days, The pot, Roseta Stoned. Puede que otras mas pero estas son las que mas recuerdo y que identifico bien... todo comenzó como a las 8:50 pm y termino como a las 10:30 pm. La banda estuvo bien prendida (un resto de rucas 2,3) y pues se puso chido. Estaría bien que estos tíos se lanzaran a dar un toquin por aya... ah también traen su láser pinfloydiano multicolor y debo decir que si no superior, pues por lo menos igual ... jajajaja.

Y continuando con el trabajo de este gran caricaturista (Matt Groening: mejor conocido por ser el creador de los Simpsons y Futurama)les traigo este libro que he estado leyendo “Life in Hell” que no es mas que la compilación de otros tres librillos “Love is Hell, Work is Hell y School is Hell”. Originalmente estas tiras aparecieron en Wet Magazine y el L.A. Reader a mediados de los años ochentas y aun hoy en día Matt sigue dibujando para esta serie. Yo alguna vez vi estos libros en el Tower Records, pero por ahí deben andar... si los ven denles una oportunidad por que la neta esta bien chidos... se los recomiendo...

"Factotum vs Born Into This"

Aunque Matt Dillon y Marisa Tomei sean grandes actores, sus esfuerzos no bastaron para hacer de esta movie algo disfrutable, basándose principalmente en la parte mas banal y cliquéada del mito Bukowski, esta movie carece del humor, la chispa y el corazón que imprime Bukowski en sus libros. En toda la película lo único que vemos es a un borracho, que busca y pierde empleos, con pequeños destellos de las letras que caracterizan al Buko. Personalmente me gustan los libros de Bukowski... y si hablan de alcoholismo, caballos, mujeres y cosas por el estilo, pero eso no es el trasfondo de su obra... y esta película no hace honor a esto.

Ahora si quieres ver al Buko tal cual, lejos de pretensiones Hollywoodenses. Es mejor que vean el documental Born into this, que es sin duda un mejor trabajo, en el cual veremos a un Bukowski atormentado por sus padres, mujeres, alcohol, y todo lo que lo caracteriza... pero llevándonos también a su trabajo como escritor. Con extraños cortos de sus lecturas, entrevistas y material inédito (John Dullaghan) nos lleva de la mano a conocer a un Bukowski mas humano, dejando atrás su aureola de hombre malo, sin dejar de ser el rey del cuadrilátero literario (jajaja) arriba Bukowski... además por si cabe mencionarlo en este documental veremos la ultima lectura de Bukowski, que es sin mas, ni mas, una lectura de sus libros en la sala de su casa en una super 8... si eres fan del Buko debes ver este documental..."You Get So Alone At Times That It Just Makes Sense." C. Bukowski

Altought Matt Dillon and Marisa Tomei did a great work in this film. It was enough to save this film that wasn’t enjoyable to see. Relying entirely on the most banal, boring parts of the Bukowski myth, and completely ignoring the humor, spark, and heart of his best work. All you see in the movie is a drunk that find and loses jobs, whit little glimpse of Bukowski’s words. Personally I like Buko’s books… and yes, his books have drinking and fighting and fornication in them, but that’s not what they’re about. They have a undercurrent meaning… the movie fails…

Now, if you want to see Bukowski with the naked eye, far beyond that Hollywood does. You better watch the documentary “Born into this” that is in deep a better work. You will find a tortured man who survived years of abuse to produce some of the most influential prose of his generation, whit rare footage, interviews and unpublished material (John Dullaghan) takes you from the hand to know Bukowski, leaving behind the halo of bad man…but always Bukowski remains champion in the literary ring (jajaja) up Bukowski… beside you also will find the last lecture recorded in his living room in a super 8… a must see documentary for any Buko’s fan..."You Get So Alone At Times That It Just Makes Sense." Donnie Darko narra la historia de un adolescente, atormentado en sus sueños por un conejo gigante, el cual le trae visiones de muerte y desastre en un futuro próximo... Donnie Darko es una movie no fácil de digerir si solo se ve una vez, por lo que habra que hacerlo un par de veces (jajaja). Muy al estilo de las movies de David Lynch, Donnie Darko es oscura, confusa, extraña, pero no podrás quitar tus ojos de la pantalla y saber el desenlace de la cinta... muy recomendable, así como su soundtrack.

Donnie Darko tells the story of a teenager whom is tormented for a terrific 6’ foot tall bunny rabbit that brings him dark forebodings about death and disaster in the very near future…certainty is not a easy movie to understand if you just watch it once. So do it a couple times (jajaja). With a David Lynch style, Donnie Darko is dark, rare and sometimes confused, but you wouldn’t take your eyes out of the screen… really a must see film. Also the soundtrack is really good.

Y si, dos rolas de este disco aparecen en “Natural Born Killers”, pero a pesar de la decadencia y desdén que oímos en estas rolas, Leonard también no ofrece esperanza en este mundo desolador como en su canción Anthem... “Ring the bells that still can ring / Forget your perfect offering / There is a crack in everything / That's how the light gets in.”… Así que ve a tienda favorita y consigue esta joyita y sobre todo chequen las letras… de este gran poeta.

Si no has visto “Natural Born Killers” o ya lo hiciste, eso no importa así que consigue esta movie y siéntate frete a tu televisor. “Natural Born Killers” es una satira a los medios de comunicación y la violencia. En donde Mickey y Mallory Knox (Woody Harrelson y Juliette Lewis) asaltan el camino y en su paso van matando a todo aquel que se les da la gana. Con toques de animación, romance, diversión, sitcom. La cinta nos va sumergiendo en la vida de estos tíos, develándonos sus problemas existenciales. Vemos a una Mallory abusada sexualmente por su padre, así como a un Mickey que es madreado también por su padre cuando es niño. Todo esto genera un odio a la sociedad y bueno... comienza el desmadre... lo divertido de esto es ver como la sociedad los convierte en héroes y como todos ganan la simpatía por lo que hacen... una película para disfrutar y reflexionar que vivos una sociedad muy, muy enferma (auque todos los sabemos) pero nadie hace nada para cambiarla.

So find this movie and seat in your favorite couch and do it again. “Natural Born Killers” is a satire to the media and violence. The movie drag you down on the lives of this fellas, going deep in their existential problems. This generated hatred again society…and well the mess began… the fun thing is that society sympathize whit them and they became a sort of heroes… a really good movie to take a thoughtful look at our sick, sick culture (although everybody now that) but nobody does something to change it.

A casi 8 años del tiroteo de la preparatoria de Columbine, la tragedia se repite nuevamente en el Tecnológico de Virgina... un presunto estudiante (aun no identificado) termino con la vida de 33 personas incluido el mismo... el lo que resulta ser el mas mortal en la historia de los Estados Unidos... y no entrando en detalles “que los podran encontrar en cualquier noticiero”... lo que me preocupa es... Que demonios esta pasando en este país... llevo viviendo mas de tres años en el estado de Nevada, específicamente en Reno, y no es la primera vez que veo que ocurra algo similar... a menor escala pero igual de aterrante, hace un poco mas de un año, otro estudiante de secundaria... amenazo con pistola en mano a estudiantes y maestros y realizo tiros, en donde resultaron heridos varios alumnos, si mi memoria no me falla... el asunto es que a esa misma escuela iba ruca a tomar sus clases de ingles...ahora esto en Tecnológico de Virginia. Es preocupante que ocurra esto... mi cabeza da vueltas y mas vueltas, y no logro entender porque...tengo sobrinos e hijos de amigos que están en la preparatoria o secundaria. Y aunque como dice el dicho cuando te toca te toca... la neta estoy muy encabronado. Cada vez me convenzo de que este mundo esta muy destartalado y poca gente le importa un bledo lo que ocurra. Estas semanas tendremos cobertura de lo que ocurrió, posiblemente hasta el video de lo ocurrido (como en Columbine) y un montón de testimonios de familiares y testigos oculares... como siempre la TV sacara provecho de esto... “que coman mierda”. Y al final todo quedara igual... solo espero que esto no sea un piche virus colectivo que se expanda alrededor del mundo y que solo sea un fenómeno del “stupid white man”.

As almost eight year ago in Columbine, the tragedy is repeated again at the Virginia Tech… a supposed student (not confirmed yet) finished whit the life of 33 people including himself… this event result to be the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history… and certainty I don’t want to know details “the media is working on it”… what I really concern is… What a hell is happening in this country… I been living here for almost four years, specifically in Reno NV. This is not the first time that something like this happened … a year ago in a local school something similar occurred. A student, with gun in hand, threatened students and teachers… some were injured. If I recall… well the point is that my girlfriend attended this school for her ESL classes… now this at the Virginia Tech. This is something to take care of… my head is spinning and spinning and I don’t get it… I have nephews and friend’s sons attending at schools… but when is your turn is your turn… I’m really pissed up . Now I’m convinced that this world is all messed up and people don’t give a shit. The coming weeks we’ll have a whole report of this event, perhaps whit a unpublished video and a bunch of testimonies of relatives and students… as always TV and media get what they want “coman mierda”. At the end, everything still the same… I just hope that this wouldn’t be a virus that is spreading around the globe…

Brazil vs Tideland

Brazil es sin duda una de las mejores películas que he visto en mi vida... y aunque tiene mas de 20 años que fue rodada aun me sigue cautivando cada vez que la veo nuevamente... con un sentido del humor bastante oscuro y grotesco. Brazil narra la historia de Sam Lowrey (Jonathan Pryce) un personaje solitario y silencioso que vive al margen de la sociedad, la cual es una intrincada e ineficiente red burocrática y desenfadada que esta a punto de explotar... con partes de fantasía clásicas del cine de Terry Gilliam. Brazil nos sumerge en el viaje de Sam quien lucha por sus sueños de librarse de su entorno y encontrar a su gran amor... aunque Brazil es difícil de seguir en algunas partes el final no te dejara un mal sabor de boca... mas bien una cierta incertidumbre... en fin muy buena película que sin dudas en un clásico del cine de ficción y fantasia...

Brazil is whit no doubt one of the best films I ever seen in my life… although was shoot more than 20 year ago, every time I see it again still amuse me…whit a real deep and black humor Brazil tells the story of Sam Lowrey (Jonathan Pryce) a lonely and quiet persona that live along with the society around him. Gilliam portrays an inefficient and bureaucratic society that is in a verge for riot… with a lot of fantasy like almost every film of Gilliam Brazil take us along with Sam in his fight for dreams and love… although Brazil is sometimes hard to follow the ending is really cool and disturbing… a great movie that is already a classic…

Por otra parte Tideland película mas reciente de Gilliam nos cuenta las aventuras de Jeliza-Rose (Jodelle Ferland que también aparece en Silent Hill), la cual tras la muerte de su madre se escapa con su padre a vivir en la granja de sus abuelos. Tras deambular por la pradera conoce a un muchacho con retraso mental y a su no mas perturbada hermana y comienza una bizarra relación con estos, mientras su padre pasa los días sumido en drogas... al igual que la mayoría de las cintas de Gilliam la fantasía en parte fundamental, pero cabe mencionar que a los 30 minutos ya me estaba desesperando de no ver nada divertido o emocionante, la actuación de Jodelle Ferland me pareció sin pena ni gloria y a la hora de la película lo que quería es que ya terminara... con un final predecible y no muy convincente. Esta movie de Gilliam me dejo con un terrible insatisfacción . Véala bajo su propio riesgo.

And the other hand Tideland a more recent Gilliam’s movie tells the trip of Jeliza-Rose (Jodelle Ferland also appear in Silent Hill). After the dead of her mother Jeliza and her father escape to the country side to live on the grand parent’s house. Wondering in the prairie Jeliza stumble with a mentally challenged boy and his no less perturbed sister. They all together start a relationship, meanwhile the father is in a vacation on drugs. As most of Gilliam work’s fantasy is abundant in this film, but after 30 minutes I was desperate for seen something interesting or fun. Jodelle Ferland acting was lame and bored, after an hour I wanted the film to end... whit a predictable and poor convincing ending. Tideland is a film to watch under your own risk.

8 Armed Monkey

La música de KTU es algo totalmente distinto a lo que he escuchado últimamente y bastante diferente de lo que puede ser el rock progresivo, con mezclas electrónicas, base rítmica esquizofrenica y el viajado acordion de Kimmo Pohjonen. KTU resulta ser todo un viaje psicodélico de primer nivel. Ciertamente tienen que escuchar a estos tipos tocar su música y partir de lo escuchado. Aunque no hace falta hacer referencia a su background musical todos sabemos quien es Trey Gunn, quien es mas conocido por King Crimson y su Warr Guitar (conjunción de Bajo y Guitarra por decirlo asi), asi como también Patt Mastelotto bateristas de King Crimson igualmente.

Finalmente Kimmo Pohjonen (que tiene varios discos de solista, así como una gran lista de colaboraciones con músicos de distintos géneros y nacionalidades) que junto con Samuli Kosminen performan Kluster. Aunque creo que esta reseña llega un poco tarde, mas no el disco, que a cierta personita se lo di desde el año pasado. Y creo que tarde porque de buena fuente me entere que KTU dio dos conciertos el mes de Marzo, específicamente 22 y 23 de Marzo en el Festival de México en el Centro Histórico. Tan solo hace dos semanas... Aaahhhh ni pedo... las cosas que se pierde uno... les dejo este video pa’ que chequen que pedo con su cd 8 Armed Monkey.

KTU’s music is something real different to the music I’ve listening lately and definitely unlike to progressive rock. With electronic mixes, schizophrenic rhythmic base and the real high accordion of Pohjonen. KTU result to be a psychedelic trip. Certainty you have to listen their music to discern to. Although we don’t have to make reference to their musical background, all we know that Trey Gunn is the King Crimson’s bassman (well know also for his Warr Guitar, blend of bass and guitar), same with Patt Mastelotto (drummer). Pohjonen has many record on his own, and many collaboration with great musicians around the world. In conjunction with Samuli Kosminen. They perform like Kluster. Excelente documental que narra diferentes etapas en la vida de este gran caricaturista. Que nada tiene que ver con los dibujantes de superhéroes de capa y calzoncillos apretados. Mas bien sus caricaturas de basan en personajes trastornados como el propio Robert Crumb. Sus comics se burlar de la moral y de los estereotipos de la sociedad norteamericana, por lo que nunca fue aceptado dentro del mainstream del comic norteamericano.

Tachado por muchos como petulante, sucio o engreído. Rober Crumb se identifica bien con Charles Bukowski en el sentido de que la sociedad lo enferma y se burla de que esa misma sociedad lo halaga. This is a great documentary about live and work of “Robert Crumb”. If you don’t know who is Robert. Well he doesn’t have nothing to do whit the superheroes draftsman. Instead his comics make mock and joke of values and stereotypes on American society, for that reason he never was totally accepted for mainstream comic industry.

Accuse of petulant, nasty and sick for many critics. He still his own way like Charles Bukowsk did it. Both hate society and make them sick. Robert Crumb play with his life, family, wives and all people around him. Without doubt a great documentary no suitable for squeamish.

Jajajaja...finalmente otro concierto que voy a disfrutar demasiado Rush (live) ... asi es niños y niñas... Rush inicia su nueva gira para promocionar su disco Snakes and Arrows que sale a la venta este 1 de Mayo... y como no quiero quedarme afuera como me sucedió con Tool ya compre mis boletos para esta allí (Agosto 4) o sea que ya es oficial, jajaja espero que vayan a México para que puedan ver a esta gran banda que en vivo es la neta...

Jajajajaja…finally another concert that I really going to enjoyed Rush (live)… is true boys and girls… Rush starts new tour to promote the new album Snakes and Arrows. It’s on stores May 1st… and because and don’t want to be left behind like it happened with Tool I already bought my ticket to be there (8-4-07) is official, jajajaja. I hoped that Rush hits Mexico, so you can see this great band that playing live RULES!!!

Ciertamente no soy fan de Gael García pero esta movie es realmente buena o al menos para mi lo fue... Elvis (Gael Garcia) después de servir en la marina decide ir a buscar a su padre David (William Hurt), el cual lo abandono de niño, al encontrarlo se da cuenta de que tiene una nueva familia, al acercase a su padre este lo rechaza... Elvis se niega a ser rechazado y inicia una serie de encuentros poco comunes con esta familia...con un final muy al estilo de la trilogía de Chan Wook Park (Old Boy, Lady Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance)... esta movie debe ser vista si disfrutaste estas ultimas.

Certainly I’m not a big fan of Gael Garcia, but this movie is really good at least for me… Elvis (Gael Garcia) after serving in the Navy decides to look up for his father David (William Hurt), who abandoned him as a child, just to find that he has a new family. When he try to approached him, he is rejected… Elvis denied to be second-hand starts a series of odd-minding approaches to the family… with a Chan Wook Park’s final (Old Boy, Lady Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance)...this is a must see movie if you enjoyed these last ones.
